Greenwich Park Eventing Invitational
- a new word that, "invitational" - we like it, and intend to use it. As often as we can -
And here, for the historical record, and to show that we really were there, and (contrary to what some may believe) we did not make any of this up, is our TICKET. It was not wishful thinking, or daydreaming, or a flight of fancy, and we really did see Miss Piggy French with our own eyes... These tickets were free but seemingly impossible to get hold of and, after three days of hearing tantalizing cheering from within the park and craning our necks in the hopeless attempt to gain a view, any view, we were lucky enough to obtain a ticket at the very last minute and stroll through the tight security in bright sunshine - rain had been forecast - to take our place high on the stand and have the best view we have ever had of the Queen's House and the Royal Naval College AND of Miss Piggy French galloping to glory. Life does not get better...
The Champion, gold medal winner Miss Piggy French gallops to glory on the magnificent Topper:
effortlessly gliding over the colourful jumps to the dead silence of the crowds who held their breath...
and then gave a resounding cheer as Great Britain's Miss French received her medal from the Duchess of Cornwall who suddenly materialized in the arena, as if by magic (or military helicopter? several passed overhead but we did not see them land so the mystery of where Camilla P-B came from is still mysterious but no matter, we only caught a back view but is is unmistakably a back view of our future Queen):
The magnificent Topper got a nice blue rosette and some carrots from the Duchess
and stood to attention during GOD SAVE OUR GRACIOUS QUEEN and then did a victory dance around the state-of-the-art sandpit that had been specially erected for the occasion at a cost of a reputed £3 million, and worth every penny we would say:
Topper thought so too... He hopes to come back next year for more medals and fun. Greenwich can only look forward...
